Don't jump to conclusions! Many divers don't even consider ice diving, thinking that it is cold and dangerous. Some of the most enjoyable dives I've had were ice dives. With proper training, equipment and planning ice diving is safe, comfortable and a heck of a lot of fun!

Ice diving extends your diving season by keeping your skills sharp and adding value to your equipment investment. It builds your confidence by gaining experience under different conditions. The visibility is often quite good due to the lack of wave action, runoff and algae. And the water temperature is really not much colder than a deeper dive in summer. Though a drysuit will increase comfort and bottom time wetsuits are often used for ice diving.

Ice Diving, even more than other specialty types of diving requires specialized training. During our PADI Ice Diver Specialty Course you will learn the planning, organization, procedures, techniques, problems and hazards of diving under ice. You will also learn to use the special equipment involved in ice diving. Site selection, preparation and hole cutting procedures. Use of safety lines, line tending and securing techniques and safety diver procedures. You will be surprised at how easy and safe ice diving can be if done properly.
