What is deep diving? You will likely get a different answer to this
question from each diver you ask. But for recreational divers PADI
defines "deep" as any dive made to a depth greater than 60 feet. While
the majority of diving is done in less than 60 feet of water there may
be times when you would like to exceed 60 feet. Wreck and wall diving
immediately come to mind. Additional training is needed prior to diving
depths beyond the 60 foot mark.
The purpose of the PADI Deep Diver Specialty Course is to familiarize
divers with the skills, knowledge, planning, procedures, techniques,
problems, hazards and enjoyment of diving between the depths of 60 to
130 feet. The course is intended to serve as a safe, supervised
introduction to deeper diving within the limits of recreational scuba
diving.
