In February of 1996 Silent World Divecenter was hired to assist in the filming of the prime time television special, "Secrets of The Worlds Greatest Escape Artists. The "Star" escape artist was Anthony Martin of Sheboygan. The show was hosted by James Brolin of Dr. Welby fame and aired on ABC TV May 9th, 1996. The escape involved locking a chained Mr. Martin into a steel box and lowering it through the ice into the fridged waters of Sheboygan's quarry using a crane. A California film crew was brought in to document the escape. Our part, obviously the most important, was to cut the hole in the ice, set up the underwater lighting, function as safety divers and I also did the underwater video taping.

An entire day was spent cutting the ice hole
lining up the underwater lights, testing the crane
and discussing why anyone would want to try this.....

The frozen surface of the quarry was turned
into a TV studio with cameras
lighting and sound equipment.

Anthony only had to do it once, I had to
crawl in and out of that hole a dozen times!

My minute of fame came when I was interviewed about hypothermia.

The escape was successful and Anthony made a dramatic appearance at the surface of the hole after freeing himself from the chains and steel box. It was an unusual couple of days for us and we thank Mr. Martin for the opportunity to assist in the making of this TV special. But we sincerely hope that his next special is filmed in the summer, the Cayman Islands would be good Anthony!
